Recently French luxury fashion house Balmain and the world’s most famous fashion doll Barbie announced their first multi-faceted collaboration. And is giving your wardrobe a luxurious digital upgrade.
The Balmain x Barbie collection is the result of a distinctly multicultural, inclusive, and joy-filled adventure. These joy-filled ready-to-wear designs come in an almost entirely neutral shade of Barbie pink, with Olivier Rousteing putting a playful twist in the brand’s new “New French Style.”
Olivier Rousteing and his Balmain design team have also been inspired by the Barbie universe’s familiar bright iconography. Badges, tees and hoodies cleverly channel the bold graphic treatment that one immediately recognizes as Barbie’s— and many of the accessories are inventive hybrids of Balmain’s signature bags and Barbie packaging. Much of this limited-edition collection plays with new spins on familiar Balmain signatures, including the house’s iconic marinière and its mesmerizing Labyrinth pattern.
In addition to the joy-filled ready-to-wear offerings, the collaboration will also feature Connecting the physical and digital worlds, the Balmain x Barbie collaboration will also move into the digital realm with collectible NFT products. Mattel Creations is bringing Barbie fashion to the world of digital art with a digital makeover with an NFT collection exclusively designed by French luxury brand Balmain.
This NFT auction will be hosted by mint NFT official, bringing collaboration into the collectible digital space. The auction will feature three unique Barbie and Ken avatars, each wearing an exclusive look from a capsule collection imagined by Haute Couture Balmain in partnership with Mattel Creations. The highest bidder in each auction will win exclusive ownership of the avatars and the featured appearance of the physical, one-of-a-kind Barbie scale versions of the clothing their avatars wear.
The auction of these authentic collectible digital fashion pieces will begin on NFT.MattelCreations.com on January 11th at 5pm PT. Representatives from Barbie and Balmain will discuss the inspiration behind the collaboration and upcoming NFT auctions.
