Today Nike announced that it will launch Nike Shox Total sneakers. The Shox Total, which debuted in 2003, is a futuristic take on the mechanical design.
Shox is a shoe feature developed by Nike and incorporated in several of their flagship athletic sports shoes. The first Shox based shoe was released in 2000.
The design of the shoe is reflected in its excellent support system feature. Nike claims that Shox not only absorbs the effects of heel strikes while running, but also claims that they “rebound” and add more power to the runner’s pace. In addition to the so-called speed boost, Shox provide superior shock absorption through high-tech elastic foam.
Shox technology remains one of the boldest design vocabularies in all of footwear. Its mechanical cushioning – an idea first born in 1984 – was said to have been inspired by viewing indoor track sprinters appear to “bounce” after impacting the surface of the track. The aesthetic, however, is pure provocation.
This time, Nike released red, orange, and classic black three colors to choose from. Nike Shox Total will releases March 21.
